I took this image of the iconic London Underground sign in the Canary Wharf  financial district of London. I want to get the sign to ‘pop’….

 
The original image was taken in RAW format and intial processed by increasing the white balance temperature to bring out the colours in the sign. I quite like the overall effect this has had on the buildings too, but I wanted to London Underground sign to stand out more.

It was a grey overcast day when I ventured down along the Thames to the Millenium Dome ( now branded The O2). This shot was taken across the river Thames from the pedestrian path.
The initial idea I had was to try to turn the image into a ‘dark’ city scape and extenuate the forms of the buildings.  The first step was to turn the RAW image into black and white.

An improvement on the original, however, I needed to get a ‘grunge’ look and so added a texture layer to the image.
